Remnants/ Relics/ Residue
Remnants/ Relics/ Residue considers what is left behind and what is kept in the aftermath of loss– scattered debris, string, scraps, collected objects, and photographs, all carrying their own memory and latent potentiality.
Are dreams just memories we tend, care, and long to keep or are they active in our bodies shaping the way we move in space? What do we create to put our bodies back together? Can the process of imbuing and reshaping familiar objects become sustenance for survival?
The pieces in this group span across many mediums that reach for, echo, and hold on to each other. Weathered textiles are tied, frayed, stitched, and stained; photographs are contorted by the passage of time. Sculptures become records. Video and sound haunt the space in the search for answers.
The works of Takming Chuang, Jasmine Nyende, Vanessa Thill, Salimatu Amabebe, Julia Kerley, Sara Osebold, Leena Joshi, Nivedita Madigubba, Lara Aburamadan and Chisato Hughes are a meditation on material memory, tied to grief– and the ways its imprints shape our collective memory.
