Sanvean and (Feels Like) Heaven both utilize reductive drop and dash shapes to convey motion and refraction of light inspired by microscopic and cosmic phenomena. To me, the word “shimmer” brings to mind water and also the glow of the sun and moon. Living in the Bay Area, we often experience light of the sun and moon through fog and these two works are my impressions of the flow and dissipation of water vapor in the atmosphere. In all of my work, I like to play with the idea of moving the viewer’s eye around with a pattern in motion of color and texture to evoke a feeling of meditation and well-being. We are all connected by how we experience the wonder of light and the beauty of patterns in nature.
