As an AfroLatina, visionary artist and painter I am passionate about leaving strong feminine images as my legacy. I consider my work medicine for the soul. Each painting is an organic expression, evolution, and revolution of self discovery that carries a unique story imbued by my personal experiences. My paintings are colorful and bold, I use symbology, mysticism and prayer to honor and elevate Black women.
Our Lady of the Scars
“Our Lady of the Scars” is inspired by the Thirteen Century Black Madonna of Czestochowa, Poland and the Fifteenth Century Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico City. They both carry historical significance surrounding miraculous events, and are visited by religious seekers who come from all over the world. I painted her in reverence to them. I have held her in my embrace for over six years. She continues to teach me. Her heart centered vulva, and sacred blood womb captures my attention. It is as if I had not noticed this before, and I am seeing it again, with new eyes.
