Seen and Heard : Mitchell Linden : The Moment Just Before

Artist Statement:

Early in my career, I worked as a music video director and editor. I loved that moment of editing when I hit the pause button. The editing room suddenly went dead quiet and a single image would be frozen on the screen. That one frame, randomly selected, would often reveal an un-posed moment never intended to be seen in isolation but revealing a previously undiscovered truth about the subject. 

My paintings often explore that moment that might otherwise have slipped by unnoticed. I love that unexpected glimpse into the subject’s true self that wasn’t posed or curated to express the idealized self.

In “The Moment Just Before” the dice has been thrown, a choice has been made, there’s no turning back. This image expresses the hope, fear and excitement of a result still unknown but soon to be revealed. My work is intended to be fun, accessible, kinetic, alive, anecdotal, and at times provocative or amusing.
