“Parking Lot”

We miss so much after dark. Scenes, like an ordinary parking lot, unremarkable by day, take on a dramatic mystery as the light leaves the sky. Windows, once glinting and translucent, turn black, unknown. A spotlight above a fence draws us into a quiet, glimmering place, and we notice, for the first time, the squat beauty of an ordinary delivery van, resting here for the night. In this painting, I was drawn to the transformation of color and mood that happens outdoors, at night, and the challenge of expressing light and shadow, via hue, color, and value.
