Seen and Heard : Carmela Beckman-Spector : Sunset

My work represents a continuous journey to understand the true nature of life. As a quiet person, I strive to convey this journey visually and boldly without words. The viewer is welcome and encouraged to interpret the story as they see fit. My interests are color, contrast and composition, which are used to capture the viewer’s attention from across a room. 

Color: layered small dots of color add texture to my art, like a field with many small plants or a person made of tiny atoms, creating a field of color. Nature and people are more complex than they seem.

Contrast: I play with contrast as a theme in my art and consider it subject matter. Dark vs. light, evil vs. good and macro vs. micro are all examples of contrast. Life is full of contrast/conflict. We can change it into beauty.

Composition: color and composition go hand in hand. I use color to carry the eye across the artwork. A subtle asymmetrical composition is my favorite.

Pen and ink is my medium of choice. 

I find the repetition of small shapes both soothing and transcendent. My goal is to show my work with like-minded artists.
