In “Coyote at Dusk, Wildcat Canyon”, a coyote seems to absorb the last light of day as the background fades away. The intense gaze of this defiant creature serves to crystalize the intersection between me and my subject in an unforgettable private moment in the wilderness. The dark background provides context for this meeting; as daylight fails, my late afternoon exploration into my local open space is almost at an end while the coyote is just beginning its nightly patrol.
