Emergence (or Modigliani Eyes)

Emergence (or Modigliani Eyes) is the child of past projects – remnants and repurposed elements that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Its lineage includes recycled elements from my Día de Los Muertos installations, incomplete artworks, a repurposed lenticular postcard, images from a water damaged art book… all on mounted recycled paper. By burying and revealing elements with each layer, I investigate my personal “archeological” record of 2020. This past year, in particular, my intention was to transform peril into possibility and promise. My creative practice balances creating art that visually investigates the natural world – and its challenges – with embodying my respect for it by stepping lightly.
