Artist Statement
i crave letting go feeling free aging naturally allowing the grey to splay. a consistent theme in my work is the female form. as my friends and I mature, i've deeply contemplated change, transformation, and acceptance. i'm profoundly grateful to live in berkeley, where women embrace aging authentically, gray hair and all. it is with this gratitude and reverence that i turn my lens to the evolving beauty around me. i step outside my door and i crave to see women leading the way, growing older with grace.
My current paintings explore the interactions between strangers in public spaces. With scenes that highlight the contradiction of being isolated while surrounded by others, these paintings portray flashes of empathetic connection. These interactions show our hopes for connection and our interest in each other. As viewers identify with the scenarios in the paintings, they are encouraged to see the people around them more fully.
