A contemporary abstract artist, my paintings employ bold vibrant colors and textures that permeate through my art. Bold, radiant colors in different hues create a dynamic feel on the canvas where my thoughts, emotions, and my journey through life are represented. Having grown up in India, I love the color, smell and fragrance of spices, flowers, the celebration of life in festivals, and the hospitality of the people I have met during my travels around the world.
My paintings are mostly abstract in nature, encompassing expressionist, fauvism art styles in landscapes and geometric abstract style in my music 'n math and women series that help in uplifting spirits, bring joy and a whimsical playfulness relaying messages of positivity and hope! Vivid colors have been integrated with abstraction and rich imagery to give a playful twist to the interpretations of the subject.
Shimmering Lights explores the intrinsic beauty of the sky with its glittering stars and the gilded paths of the celestial bodies, and through it, illuminating the darkness of the unknown and hatred through the light of knowledge and love.
BIO
Durba is a contemporary abstract artist based in the Bay Area. Having grown up in India, she loves the color and fragrance of spices, blooming flowers, the celebration of life in cultural festivals, art and architecture of a diverse country, and the hospitality of the people she has met during her travels around the world. Her art is an abstraction of her journey, heritage and views in life.
Her paintings address social issues, women, life and nature, through abstract expressionism. Color and texture are the elements that permeate through her paintings. She is obsessed with color, and this finds representation in her work and creates a dynamic feel on the canvas. Her paintings are often multi-layered to achieve the desired effect in color and texture. Through fun geometric abstractions and abstract expressionisms, her paintings delve into nature, climate change, women’s rights, science and mathematical formations in nature and in life. She also explores fauvism in abstract landscapes in explosions of color. Her art is constantly evolving through different genres to highlight issues dear to her and fun to create.
Durba is a self taught artist, painting in acrylics and oil, learning through visits to galleries, museums and workshops. The artist support system in Northern California has been crucial and beneficial to her growth as an artist. Her work in solo and group shows have been displayed at art galleries, libraries, coffee shops and alternative spaces throughout the U.S.
She also teaches art to kids weekly at her art studio.
