Jennifer Mazzucco - Flora, Fauna, & Beyond

September 2 - 30, 2023

Artist Statement

Teaching Zoom art courses during the shelter-in-place order provided a way to counteract isolation. Focusing on color theory and painting various subjects, such as still life, birds, insects, landscapes, and sunsets, with my students, was a balm during this tumultuous time. It also reconnected me with my European artistic heritage and artists within it who celebrated the beauty of the natural world. The act of creating art has been my means of self-preservation, and working in watercolor has taught me to let go of control and allow its magic to happen. Regardless of my subject, I aim for my art to provide viewers with the same sense of transcendence I feel while creating it.

To all who joined my classes in the past three years, you are the muses that have inspired the paintings in this exhibition. Especially Marsha Therese Danzig, who left the earthly realm to dance with the shooting stars.
