In Korean legend, each dragon possesses one Yeouiju (Yo-we-joo) which is a marble that has magical power. Many paintings featuring dragons were used to wish for rain for the crops because dragons were believed to bring rain - hence the clouds. Also, in general, because dragons are believed to have magical power, people wished for magical protection from bad spirits.
