Mixed media construction, wood, plastic, photographs and model parts
Recent landscape sculptures focus on how we exist and define wilderness. From sojourners into the wilderness I create mixed media sculpture and drawings inspired by nature and humankind's relationship to it. Often an assembly of photographs and objects collected are then incorporated with maps, to define and create a texture of meaning in these diary-like works.
During my treks I endeavor to capture the experience of places. These constructions give us a better understanding of ourselves as elements in nature rather than the focal point. When back in my studio, away from “nature”, I create a framework to utilize materials such as veneer, found objects and photographs to tell the stories of our industrial presence and nature’s resilience through a process of layered stories.
