Instructor Bio

Darcy Nicholson is originally from the Bay Area and came back after spending five years in Chicago where they completed a BFA degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since returning, Darcy has worked for the Crucible in West Oakland, where they teach Jewelry Classes to a diverse range of students. They held a position as a Teaching-Artist-in-Residence at Oxbow School and built a Jewelry Department while working there.

Darcy is interested in teaching and sharing metal smithing techniques to make jewelry making more accessible and believes that jewelry has the power to protect the wearer and provide confidence needed to interact with a society that doesn’t always welcome people, who have different body types and ideals such as those who are enveloped in queer culture. This is important to Darcy because as a queer person they want to nurture a space for queer bodies navigating the world.

Darcy’s jewelry has been showcased in the design collective Land of Arden, a Chicago based organization that celebrates queer and trans designers.
