burns in paper based on wind maps
Burns in paper depicting wind map from Winter 2019. The extremes of climate change led to this series inspired by wind maps I looked at during the polar vortex winter storms. As a Californian, I am now painfully aware of how our wet winter storms lead to intense fire seasons. The seeming contradiction of how so much rain and green new growth lead to creates conditions for horrific fires months later is hard for me to grasp. I find that carefully burning the wind patterns into paper with a soldering iron is both a release of frustration and an expression of this reality.
