Bokjumeoni [boʊk dʒuː mʌni] is a silk drawstring pouch that comes embroidered in various designs and colors. In Korean tradition, holding on to one of the pouches was believed to bring good fortune in the New Year. In modern days, kids and adolescents will carry a pouch with them on New Year’s Day and relatives or grandparents will give them pocket money to wish them luck. In some ways, Bokjumeonis are like portable Christmas stockings.
