The Ground Upon Which We Stand: Lorraine Lerman-Maria La Rabiosa
18" x 24" x 1.75"
clay monoprint on Reemay fabric
Having lived through Hurricane Hugo in Puerto Rico, the news of Hurricane Maria was
terrible. This clay monoprint is an expression of my memories, fears and hopes for the
island’s people as climate change intensifies. The howling winds that hovered and
shrieked begot the name Maria La Rabiosa - rabid, raging Maria. But in the midst of
disaster, ed ginger, pink miramelinda, yellow copa de oro flowers emerge, hidden in the
windblown and bowed palms, auguring renewal.
