Colors and themes from those experiences surface in my artwork. I return often to visions of landscapes, the rhythms of jazz, flora, and fauna. I enjoy working on a small scale and I love to draw. My work follows a design aesthetic of piecing and placing shapes and colors like puzzle pieces in constructed environments. My latest love, stained glass, further expresses this varied, colorful aesthetic.

Luminosity: The Glow From Within was conceived as a show of lightness and beauty, countering the darkness of the world around and welcoming in the lengthening days of spring. My two works for this exhibition are settings for transparent agate slices in glass. Both semi-abstract compositions echo phenomena of the natural world. Luminosity 1: Water and Sky features a golden agate that sits in for the sun reflecting on the water made of wavy iridized glass. Golden hued hills and waterfalls complete the peaceful image. Luminosity 2: Living Trunk is a testament to the persistence of nature. The dark agate literally glows from the inside, while the outer edges are graced with new growth. The richly colored surroundings are meant to evoke earthy scents and textures, as in a walk in the woods.

BIO

A Bay Area native, I studied Art History at UCLA and Arts Administration at NYU. Along the way, I had the privilege of participating in the Kennedy Center’s Partners in Education Program and serving on the Berkeley Cultural Trust and the Alameda County Arts Commission’s education committee. As a member of the Education Department at Cal Performances, I helped develop and explore the framework of Artistic Literacy which informs my approach to artmaking and sharing to this day. Luminosity is my second curatorial collaboration with my brother Robert Abrams, marking the Abrams Claghorn Gallery’s 11th anniversary.
