In these moments, I listen closely to the tension between calm and movement, surface and the depths.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis dimensional mixed-media work is inspired by California’s last wild River, the Smith. My phthalo-forward palette is intentional, because the Smith's waters truly glow—from emerald and phthalo turquoise in direct sunlight to cobalt and indigo in the shadows, revealing an undercurrent of spirituality, her vitality, and presence. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003ePattern Language II \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ewas created by integrating digital imagery and traditional printmaking with kirigami elements. I cut shapes directly into the print’s surface and fold them open to reveal a brightly-hued sheen beneath. The artwork’s painted back side reflects a scarlet glow onto the wall.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eProtecting Nii~- li~ (Smith River in the Tolowa language), and freshwater systems globally, is deeply personal. Nii~- li~ is California’s last wild river. She flows through a 175,000-acre watershed of ancient old-growth redwood forests, sacred Tribal lands, and protected wilderness. My family and I return each summer.
