The Day I Spent in Silence: Glass, 3 Panels, 7" x 59" X  1"

Bio:

Gibson spends a significant amount of time in the mountains and high deserts of Idaho and the Pacific Northwest. His passion for the outdoors is evident as he incorporates the subtle lines, color and texture of the natural world in his artwork. He attended Artist in Residence programs in New Mexico and Washington State. He has been a teaching assistant at the Corning Museum of Glass and Pittsburgh Glass Center. He is primarily a self-taught artist and gained experience working at a kiln glass resource center by teaching and assisting visiting artists. His work is viewable in several public art installations and held in private collections.  Additional work can be viewed at www.gibsonglassart.com.

Statement:

My work is influenced by remote landscapes I explore, contemplate and navigate. I am drawn to intimate landscapes because they require focused observations to begin to understand the space I am observing. Through notes, memories, pictures and contemplation, an emotional experience begins to take place. Emotional experiences and memories may feel new, fade, age and change just as the traits of the land are ever changing. For me, the layers of glass powders I use to create my work simulate a physical and mental connection of elaborate and subtle lines, colors, and textures in the places I frequent.   “The day I spent in silence” and “Found and Lost” are directly related to a 7-day solo backpacking trip in the Seven Devils Range in the Hells Canyon Recreation Area of Idaho.
